A bit of Mann Fence Company's 64 year history........
In the late 1960s and early 1970s, residential fence rapidly expanded beyond traditional chain link fence. North America's west coast, abundant with redwood trees and the United States upper Midwest, rich with white cedar, offered long lasting woods that worked well for use as fence materials.
Redwood dimensional stock was usually stained for a deep red appearance and then assembled into intricate Basket Weave fence or other styles of the period on the customer's property. White Cedar "Stockade" fence and other white cedar styles were the next to become popular. White cedar fence was preassembled by hand into panels from half round pickets at the mill. Each white cedar picket, rail and post was cut from the diameter of a single small white cedar tree. After assembly, the panels were shipped to the contractor for installation.
By the late 1970s, wood fence had become the standard in the suburban Kansas City metro. Redwood and white cedar products were in great demand by home owners. Western red cedar started to slowly replaced them by being more available and cost effective. Many decorative red cedar styles were created by Mann Fence for our customers. Red cedar has become the wood fence industry standard today.
Please take a moment to enjoy our residential fence brochure created in the late 1970s. You will find many styles that remain popular today. We are proud to have created a large majority of them and are honored that many contractors still offer these designs today. As you will see, quality never goes out of style.
